Reviewer: B. B. 31-Dec-04Comment: I used KKMI for a DIY bottom paint job on my 25' catalina. I also had them put a new backing plate on the O/B support. I went to KKMI mainly because they were close and had reasonable fees. I had made resvs. 6 weeks in advance (the office crew was very nice and helpful) and I was there on time on Friday morning for the haulout. They didn't get to me until about 3pm (after waiting 5 hrs). Then, after the haulout, my 'Job Manager' was nowhere to be found. At KKMI there is no help on Sunday so I could not move the supports to complete the paint job. On Monday my 'Job Manager' called to inform me that they had to get the boat in the water because they needed the space so they had already completed the paint job for me (I had planned to do it myself as soon as they were able to adjust the stands). He wanted to put the boat in the water right away, but I was concerned that the paint would not have enough time to cure (the directions say 24 hrs minimum) so I asked him to wait 24 hrs; his reply was a very condescending 'don't worry, we do this all the time' but he grudgingly agreed to wait until 3pm or so. I have no idea when the boat actually went into the water. Then when I got the invoice I found that I had been over-charged (not by a huge amount, but still..). I called him to have him correct the invoice and was made to feel like a petty jerk for bothering with the details. They did adjust the invoice however. Then when I went to the yard on Tuesday morning to pick up the boat, lo and behold, I could see no movement in the other boats and my space was still unoccupied. I guess they 'really needed' my space after all. Perhaps my experience was unusual (my yard mate was quite happy with KKMI's work) but I cannot recommend KKMI for DIY jobs.
