Oracle team USA wins America's Cup 2013

Wednesday, September 25, 2013

With what has dubbed as the greatest comeback in sports history, Team Oracle USA has won America's Cup 34.

Just a few days and 8 races ago, the score was Team new Zealand 8 Team USA 1. The kiwis only needed one more win to take the cup to New Zealand. The Americans insisted they would win and they weren’t kidding. Each day between races Oracle USA  was able to tweak their boat and get extra boat speed.

In the final race today Team Oracle USA’s superior boat speed was very evident. The Kiwis again rounded the bottom mark ahead by just a few seconds, Again Oracle split with the Kiwis and headed to the city front. By the second tack USA was ahead. They continually built on their lead, foiling upwind in speed in excess of 32 knots.

By the top mark it was no contest and the Americans won the final race.

So what now?

Will Larry keep the Cup in San Francisco or will the next America’s Cup be sailed elsewhere?
