1 Star Rating

On 4/2/2012 I delivered a boat that I had recently purchased to have Baert Marine look over the outboard motor and tell me the condition and how much it would cost for the repairs if any were required. I left the boat and in a few days received a call from their service manager stating that they did not want to work on it because it was just too old of an outboard (1989). I asked him if he could just look it over and tell me if anything was wrong and he said that they did not want to touch it. I told him fine and that I would pick up the boat that weekend. I and my son went there on 4/21/2012 to pick the boat up and I was told I owe them $57.50 to which I asked them what for. The guy working in the service department said it was for a half hour of the mechanics time to which I replied that I was told that they didn't want to work on it. I finally said that if a mechanic worked on the motor and I am being charged, show me what he did. He could not and so I asked to speak to a manager, who essentially told me the same. Basically, it was pay the money or I don't get my boat back. I told them I don't mind paying for work done but if someone spends time doing something I should get a record of specifically what they did. The funny thing was that I had actually gone there to pick up my boat and purchase a new one from Baert, but because of the treatment I took the boat home (since donated to a high school kid to repair and keep) and went to Russo Marine and purchased a boat from them. In the long and the short of it, I want my $57.50 back and they lost a sale and customer for $57.50.
